Allow me to paint you a picture: 100 miles of garage sales, two aunts, two cousins, my mom, some real crappy weather and myself. No husbands, boyfriends, kids, pets or responsibilities just six women on a mission to find “stuff”.
But Lindsey, you say, didn’t the inclement weather and poor driving conditions put a damper on your trip?
We maneuvered our way through the snow, sleet and rain like it was our job.
We got in and out of the car so many times I lost count. Find a sale, pull over, get out, shop, get back in, rinse and repeat. Our troop was on autopilot, fueled by that innate desire women have to shop.
I walked away with a killer fanny pack, vintage books from the 1920’s, headscarves, a chest, birthday presents, and a few things I will share with you in the future.
However my best find (other than the fanny pack, obviously) was realizing that it wasn’t just a garage sale; it was 100 miles of sweet, sweet girl time. It was hearing my 60 year old aunt chime in on the “That’s What She Said” theme. It was family bonding, catching up and quality time spent with 5 women I absolutely adore.
Upon our return home we were serenaded by the sound of music and children’s laughter. The men had dinner on the table; a frozen bucket of margaritas at the ready and better yet everything and everyone remained in one piece.
So if you ever find yourself winding through the quaint river towns of Southern Minnesota in May, pull over, you never know what you’ll discover!
